Pods

I finally allowed my mother to go to SNR yesterday. It was time. She hadn’t really gone out since the Omicron surge, and she had faithfully complied with my draconian measures. They arrived at SNR at around 9 am, so there weren’t too many customers just yet. Then they had lunch at Nono’s in Nuvali, which has a fantastic al fresco area. When she got home she excitedly gave me her pasalubong:

It was great, but the twist is…we don’t have a coffee pod machine. Or any coffee machine for that matter. So we cracked open our Encyclopedia Americana, aka Youtube, and discovered ways to use the pods without a machine. So apparently you can just pry the capsule open and make taktak the contents on a coffee filter and pour hot water over it. I already have a pack of coffee filters and an imbudo which we had used before in a home coffee-making activity. Problem solved, saving us thousands of pesos from buying a machine that we would only use a few times before reverting back to 3-in-1. Also, these plastic pods can’t be too good for the environment!

In other news, I received an email a few days ago that my manuscript had just been accepted for publication by a major publishing house. They’re targeting a late 2022 release. Here’s hoping I don’t die before then!

  3. I sent home a coffee machine and boxes of coffee pods to my mom last December. She hasn’t opened it yet and said, “It’s too techie for me. Buy me bottles of Davidoff coffee next time instead”. I should suggest your manual technique to her on our next video call. hahaha

Also, looking forward to your published work Doc!
