Crunchy Peanuts

So apparently Texas Roadhouse in Rob also has an al fresco area, and it’s located on the 3rd floor so it’s super windy. It was 4 pm, I had just finished clinic in Manila Med, and we decided to have an early dinner with drinks. The afternoon wind blew the tissues away, and had I not been agile enough it would have also blown the appetizer monay into the next table.

The waitress also served roasted peanuts as free appetizer, and it was surprisingly tasty and crunchy I wanted to ask for a full bucket. I realized I didn’t really want to eat steak, what I actually wanted was Chickenjoy, but it was a steakhouse so I opted for the tiniest sirloin steak. I remember Levi scolding me that if you’re going to eat a steak well done, you might as well order beef salpicao and it will be cheaper too, so I had the 6 oz sirloin medium rare. I remember a lecture in 2nd year medicine in pathology, where eating raw hamburger could apparently give you some form of glomerulonephritis, and since then I would always fear for my kidneys whenever I eat semi-raw meat.

I had a shot of whiskey. A patient then messaged me in panic asking if we could have an online consultation that night. His relative has just been diagnosed with cancer as well, and wanted to talk to me ASAP. You know what, let’s have that consult right now, I said, thinking I would want to go directly to bed when I get home as I usually don’t schedule online consults on a weekend. We had the consult, and I realized when I turned the video on that I was getting all Asian-flushed from that tiny shot of whiskey. The patient wasn’t there, I just chatted with the relative and gave a background on what we might be doing, so maybe it didn’t really count as a formal consult, just something to appease and give them a roadmap.

The last time I ate in Texas Roadhouse was in 2016, when my friend Mario asked me to come with him to fetch his girlfriend, Myrna, from her clinic in Makati. I drove to Mario’s house, got into his car, and we fetched Myrna. Myrna then said that her clinic-mate, Trina, was inviting her to the soft-launch of Texas Roadhouse BGC that night, because Trina’s mother was one of the organizers. So Mario had to come, and I had to come as well. So I got a free steak courtesy of my friend’s girlfriend’s friend’s mom’s event. Right place at the right time I say, right place at the right time.
