I must have assumed that this blog is sentient and can write itself, but when someone pointed out that it’s been five months since I’ve last written something I was shocked! Or at least, I pretended to be shocked. Of course I’m aware how I’ve been so remiss at this. Also, I was reminded to pay for the domain renewal, which is the best reminder to blog again! Nothing more convincing than FEES.
A lot of things have happened in the past five months, and as always whenever something happens I tell myself that I’m going to write about it! And end up totally forgetting about it. In fair I try to write beats and memorable moments on my phone, so hopefully I can recreate entire stories out of those. But still, who knows what gems my Boracay roommates Rose and Smoketh must have told me in a drunken haze a few weeks ago. Or the long rants I’ve unleashed while we were in the middle of the sea which made them laugh, so those rants must be really funny, Whatever those are, they are gone. Dementia is here!
For some reason I wasn’t too excited with the Boracay trip this year, maybe because I was swamped with so many real-life worries this 2023. Eventually enjoyed the trip quite a bit, although there was the threat of #BettyPH coming in and throwing a tsunami into the entire island that very weekend. Smoketh flew out of the island early, so on the last day only Rose and I were left to struggle with the strong island winds. We decided to have lunch in Aplaya, where I had some sandwich and a pina colada. Of course we couldn’t miss that opportunity for… book promodization!
When we ran out of things to talk about Rose and I decided to test the abilities of Chat GPT. I haven’t really used it before, so Rose described to me what Chat GPT is capable of doing. “OK Rose ask Chat GPT to make 10 multiple choice questions about the management of early stage breast cancer”. We got really basic multiple choice questions, and Rose said I have to be as specific as I can.
“Ask Chat GPT to write a short story. It’s about a woman with breast cancer who discovers that her husband is gay!” Chat GPT instantly wrote us a short story entitled Betrayal: Cancer and Closet! I expect that AI will develop real creative writing skills in no time at all, but in the meantime it at least creates a structured story. We noticed, though, that the stories always have a positive vibe to it. It’s always… inspirational. For instance in Betrayal: Cancer and Closet, Daisy gets cured of cancer in the end, forgives her husband for betraying her, becomes a world-renowned painter… and creates an organization with dual advocacy: cancer and LGBTQIA rights!

Wow, ChatGPT is oddly inspiring! I’ve only used it so far for teaching-related purposes, and it has been an interesting resource. Welcome back to WordPress!
