Shameless Vultures

There are news that we are going to be placed on a CBLSECQ starting August 1. Making fun of all these initials should have gotten old by now, the way old jokes when rehashed enough times lose their luster, but the government is not making it easy for us to let go with these super fun acronyms! I don’t know what this Circuit Breaker Lockdown-Style ECQ will entail. The last time we had a repeat of ECQ they placed lubid along the side walks of Padre Faura, Orosa, and Adriatico, basically just cordoning off that most sacred of all places: Robisons’ Place Manila. When they started easing it off by allowing strict al fresco dining, Mang Inasal set-up their al fresco restaurant in the 5th floor parking lot! Maybe this CBLSECQ will turn out to be fake news, but whether fake or not people still flock to Pepper Lunch and eat like it’s 2017 anyway!

We clapped, cheered, cried when Hidilyn Diaz won our first Olympic gold ever. When Onyok Velasco won the silver I was in third year high school, and since then we had waited with bated breath for that time when we would finally get that elusive gold. In her first interview immediately after the win she mentioned the difficulties she had experienced, one of which was being in “the matrix”, and we were suddenly reminded of that ridiculous, insane video of Salvador Panelo ranting like Justice League’s resident paranoid The Question. Cheers to Karmina Constantino for not mincing words in her interview, as he totally made a Lea Michelle by doing the whole “sorry she felt that way” routine. All these yucky politicians chiming in makes me hum Right Through You from the phenomenal 1996 album Jagged Little Pill, “Now that i’m Miss Thing, now that I’m a zillionaire, you scan the credits for your name and wonder why it’s not there!” Different context, of course, but these vultures are just shameless. Shameless!

I’ve just discovered the fantastic TV show Timeless, which had been cancelled after just two seasons and a movie. It’s great! The secret to enjoying time travel shows is to not lose your head trying to analyze them, because they will not make sense anyway. I am now officially putting Timeless in my personal pantheon of favorite shows that were cancelled way too early, along with Pushing Daisies, Wonder Falls, Tru Calling, and Birds of Prey.
