Beware!

Was able to drop by Mt. Cloud Bookshop in Baguio to get my fill of Filipino-authored books. As a vanity exercise of course I checked if my book was still being sold, and I couldn’t find it anywhere in the store! I decided not to bother the lady at the counter if they still have stocks. The last time I was here I saw one copy on display, so I asked her “Uhm, is this is the last copy…” with the thought “… because it’s such a fantastic best seller?” She said, “Oh no, we still have a full box of it in the stockroom. How many copies do you need?” I laughed nervously and just told her no thank you.

Had drinks with Lucio Van Pelt at SM Baguio Chili’s. He recently saw a lady with a Labubu hanging from her bag, but this Labubu was encased in a protective transparent box, so the Labubu looked dead inside a coffin. Lucio had been getting obsessed with Labubu lately. He doesn’t own one, but he had been scrolling endlessly online for second-hand Labubu. I don’t understand the whole phenomenon, but who am I to judge. When I was in Grade 6 I said I wouldn’t ever buy a Troll. Three months of restraint later I asked my mom if I could get this Troll with a tennis racket and blue hair in Gift Gate in Park Square Makati. The clothed one was apparently more expensive, so she got me the nude one with orange hair.

Sufficiently drunk Lucio and I walked into Fully Booked and tried to look for more stuff to read/stash on our shelves and forget. We instead gravitated towards Pop Mart stuff. No Labubu was in sight, but I bought two Justice League blind boxes. I hate the idea of blind boxes, specially if each one costs P600 or more, but I bought two anyway and consider this a drunken purchase! As we were having coffee in Greyhound Cafe I opened them and got Aquaman and Green Lantern. They were cute, so right in the middle of eating cake Lucio impulsively ran out of Greyhound Cafe and ran back to Fully Booked. He came back with two more Justice League blind boxes. I wanted Black Canary or Wonder Woman, but we instead got Shazam and The Green Arrow.

Beware these drunken purchases that will be nothing but clutter as soon as I reach home!
