Our flight to Sydney was delayed an hour, then two hours, then three. The Qantas staff said it’s some engineering concern. Three hours later we still hadn’t boarded, so we just gave up and assumed it wouldn’t push through. Besides, it was storming outside, as #KristinPh was already on its way in. Despite flying relatively frequently I’m still anxious when it comes to flying, which is due no doubt to having watched Lost so many times. I went to the NAIA3 lounge to knock myself off with free alcohol. An hour later we finally boarded.
And I wish we hadn’t. The turbulence was terrible and kept on for almost thirty minutes. At some point people started screaming. My seatmate, a guy in his 60’s who was on his way back to Australia after vacationing in the Philippines just snickered every time I felt like the door would be sucked out of the plane. To entertain myself I sang Alanis Morissette’s Ironic in my head, particularly the line: “He waited his whole damn life, to take that flight, and when the plane CRASHED down he said well isn’t this nice.” I shouldn’t have pre-loaded myself with too much whiskey.
We made it to Sydney. With me were Alanis Cornucopia, Dennis, Mark, and Teptep. Not having researched anything about the activity we were attending, we all thought that the conference was in Sydney. It was, apparently, in Leura, which was 2 hours away from Sydney. Teptep said that his friend had concert tickets for The Weeknd. I knew a couple of The Weeknd songs, Teptep knew three The Weeknd songs, Alanis Cornucopia asked who we were going to watch on the weekend. The train system was not too complicated to figure out. After getting lost in the train system of Copenhagen in 2016 I would always depend on somebody when it comes to taking trains, but this was one of the easiest ones to navigate. We had difficulty, though, trying to figure out where to alight.
“Sundan natin yung mga naka t-shirt ng The Weeknd,” I suggested. We did, and we made it to the Accor Stadium. I felt so smart!
